Cashing Cheques - Natwest

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to cash cheques into a Natwest account via Ulster Bank? I am in Northern Ireland at university at the moment and I have a cheque to cash but there are no Natwest branches here. Can you take the cheque into Ulster Bank and cash it there, what with it being like the sister of NW?

Thanks

When you say 'cash' the cheque, what do you mean by it?

If you mean writing the cheque out to cash (and therefore exchanging it over the counter for cash) then I would say no.

If it is a cheque made out to you, which you want to pay into a NatWest account, then also probably no. In any case the cheque would need to be mailed from the Ulster branch to a NatWest clearing centre in the UK. Too risky in my opinion.

I'll assume you mean pay the cheque into your account, since NatWest don't cash cheques at all.
    Their website's support centre says:
It is not possible to pay cash or cheques into your account using a different brand of bank branch.
So sounds like you can't pay in at Ulster Bank. But on the other hand, there's no harm in popping in and asking - they might be able to help.
Edit: Or contact NatWest on the phone or web chat. Since they're your own bank they might be in an even better position to help.

I couldn't even pay a cheque into my NatWest account at the local branch of RBS without having to pay a fee. And I thought they were the same company!

You can deposit but not 'cash' cheques via Ulster Bank.

You'll need a pre-printed deposit slip from payin book or cheque book.

That been said, they may be reluctant to accept high value cheques and insist that you post them direct to NatWest for clearance.
