I know that you aren't meant to give medical advice on MSE and I accept that and understand the reasons why but I don't understand your medical/chemical-speak Ted so I would really appreciate it if you could explain this in simple laymans terms please so I at least stand a chance of understanding what your trying to say
Without giving medical advice I am simply trying to point up the fact that our bodies evolved to work best given unlimited supplies of vitamin D. We were born naked and our skins evolved from the black equatorial skin to the pale white caucasion to properly survive at these latitudes. We have become maladapted to our environment by wearing clothes, staying indoors, using sunscreen/sunblock so now many are unable to tolerate sunlight. If we realised our skin is our largest endocrine organ and requires sunlight to power it's actions and ensured some time was available each day to operate in the manner naturally evolved we would mostly be much healthier. People who spend all day every day outside in the sunshine have Vitamin D levels at least double those of the average, normal UK person. In order for ALL the systems in the body to have unrestricted access to vitamin D3 or the products metabolised from D3 we need to have at least 100nmol/L D3 circulating. Actual physical harm to the body is measurable below 80nmol/L but peak physical athletic performance is only achievable if your status is above 125nmol/L.The research showing how much 45yrold white UK residents actually have show most are below 75nmol/L ALL the year, with significant numbers below 40nmol/L.Each 400iu Vitamin D3 tablet will raise nmol/L status by between 7-12nmol/L the lower your levels the greater the potential rise. If I do the mental arithmetic needed to inform you how much vitamin d3 you need to take to raise your status from below 75nmol/L to above 125nmol/L it will result in the post being deleted because the amount required is over the current safe upper limit. But the fact is that there is NO CREDIBLE RESEARCH EVIDENCE supporting the current safe upper limit and Risk Assessment for Vitamin D shows it requires 40,000iu/d to produce hypercalcemia and 10,000iu/d is the proposed safe upper limit. The point of rabbitting on about Vitamin d is because vitamin D controls your calcium uptake. WHFoods: calcium shows where and how you can raise your calcium intake but raising your Vitamin d status first will ensure your body will be able to absorb it better.

I posted another answer to the question of Vitamin D3 and calcium uptake here at #21 as I thought this had been deleted.
