TV with usb connection, can you record straight from tv to usb without a hard drive? The old vhs you could put a tape and then record from tv. I wonder whether you could do the same with a build in freeview tuner? Thanks

Video recorders had their own tuner, so you weren't recording from the TV.
Most TVs I've seen with a USB port don't allow you to record.
However, my Samsung Smart TV does; but it records to USB using a non-standard format which means recordings can only be played back on the TV. It also connects to the Internet and offers access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Netflix, etc.0 -
On our Samsung you can record from tue USB, but only the station the Freeview on the TV is set on.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

You can with some LG`s but it needs to be bigger than 40gig so a portable hard drive is neededHave a nice day

Yes - many TV's can - both our Panasonic Viera and (cheap) 24" Logik can and do..0 -
General rule does not exist. You need to check each SPECIFIC model number.
It's not a good solution though because, as suggested above, it'll use up the only tuner the TV contains, meaning you're stuck watching what's being recorded. Much better to get a PVR (personal video recorder) instead.0
