In praise of Santander

Today I had my bag 'dipped' and they stole my wallet with numerous cards etc. This happened so quickly in a charity shop while I still had my bag on my shoulder.

I went into the nearby Santander branch and they immediately cancelled my debit card and tried to help in any way. They even looked up the number for my credit card provider, dialled their number and handed me the phone to cancel it.

They then asked if there were any others I needed to contact straight away and basically were very supportive and helpful. So thank you very much to Graham at the Shawlands branch of Santander.

Now aware I shouldn't have kept so many cards in one wallet, and will definitely not be doing that in future.

Great to see someone getting good customer service and then letting others know about it. Any chance you could write to Santander and let them know how pleased you are? Graham sounds like just the kind of person who should be promoted in a bank!

Definitely think you should write a wee letter of thanks. I'll bet they don't get many and would be delighted to have such
  • Yes I will definitely write a letter of thanks. I have always found Santander staff really nice in every branch I've ever used, they always go out of their way to help, professional in a friendly way.

In fact I moved house recently and took a big box of chocs to the staff at my previous local branch. The manager and everyone came out front for hugs and well wishes. Had been with them for 10 years and it felt a bit like "Cheers -where everyone knows your name."
  • I'm with Santander and never had any reason to complain about them. When we got married about a year and a half ago and my wife went through the process of changing her surname on everything, she called Santander to get her name changed and thought that was it. A bit later they sent some letter out in her old name so she called to tell them and they offered to give us £15 into our account to say sorry.

It wasn't that big a problem but we thought that was nice. Anyway we didn't get the money so she called again to see when we'd get it and they apologised and gave us £35. Well happy, we were hoping they would not process the payment again so we could get even more but we got it pretty quickly after that.
