I cancelled my Post Office broadband account due to house move. At new property I now have Plusnet.
I tried to instal Plusnet email on Outlook but since then I'm suddenly getting emails to my old Post Office account, which I can open and read but not reply to. Before I had Plusnet there were no emails in my P.O. account but suddenly over 950 downloaded at once (I cancelled P.O. 6 months ago).
Phoned Customer Services at Post Office and they confirm my account has been cancelled, but the man I spoke to said "the portal may still be open". If I am not paying for P.O. phone or broadband how is it that emails are still arriving in my former inbox each day? I am confused!!!
Please can I ask all you experts out there for help?

I have gmail, yahoo and aol email accounts. None of them are my broadband providers. You don't need Outlook to use email. Put your plusnet email address into your favourites list and access it from there. You don't have to have your email address from your broadband provider. If I am not paying for P.O. phone or broadband how is it that emails are still arriving in my former inbox each day? Presumably your PO account details are still in your Outlook settings. The email address may continue to work for an indeterminable period. Don't rely on it though, as one day you'll suddenly discover it no longer works. I cannot explain why you've suddenly received a torrent of old emails - have you not used Outlook for a while? How do I add a signature?0

The old Post Ofice emails are just a dump of your old Post Office mailbox. If you move house, use a new provider, keep your old email settings, this will happen (providers are slow to kill old mailboxes). In Outlook you will have 2 accounts:-Littleweedj wrote: »I tried to instal Plusnet email on Outlook but since then I'm suddenly getting emails to my old Post Office account, which I can open and read but not reply to.
Post Office. If you want to reply to any emails change the SMTP server settings to relay.plus.net
 Plusnet. Is this working OK?0

Thanks to you all so much for the above suggestions. No surprise to hear my I.T. skills are very lacking.
I had wrongly thought that since I cancelled my P.O.phone/broadband it would be closed completely so I switched to a hotmail account. On previous occasions I did double check my P.O. emails but there was nothing at all in my inbox in the last 6 months; it was only when I tried to open Outlook for Plusnet emails that the big download from previous months happened and still does on a daily basis.0
