Fake Goods

Options
Oh dear:mad:

Stupidly bought a Ralph Lauren Hoodie on line off what appeared to be a genuine website.

Duly arrived from China looking more like a elephant than a pony.

I've raised the issue with the credit card provider but they need confirmation from Ralph Lauren that it is actually fake.

Ralph Lauren will not do that. I thought they may have done if only to deal with the counterfeiters?

Any ideas on how to handle this?

Thanks

I had a similar situation. My mother way buying my sister's prom dress from a legitimate enough looking website on the internet that purported to be an outlet/sale store for a brand. They didn't accept mastercard so I let her use my visa. That probably should have been the first sign to be honest. Anyway Barclaycard were very good. I explained to them that the item didn't look like the one in the picture and all the labels were in Chinese. The company concerned wouldn't respond to emails and there was no return address. Barclaycard just returned the money and left us with the bit of cloth that was supposedly a dress.

Does your hoodie have anything that obviously marks it out as a fake? That would be helpful and might mean there is no need to send it to Ralph Lauren?

Failing this if Ralph Lauren don't want to play ball I would keep pushing the credit card company to give you your money back or arrange at their expense to have someone assess the hoodie.

Ralph Lauren don't get involved with counterfeiting on eBay which is sold basically by 99% of sellers yet they don't care so the chances of RL proving your hoodie is fake isint going to happen.

Price should of been a giveaway!

There may be a slight difference here.

I'm guessing that your sister's prom dress cost more than 100 quid (I may be wrong:)), where as it's unlikely the OP's hoodie did?

This would mean that you complaint probably got dealt with as a S75, where as the OP is relying on chargeback - where the card company doesn't share liability with the supplier.

Even if it was over £100 it would still have delt with by a chargeback.
You think a card provider is just going to hand over the money, when there is a way to get the cash back?

OP. Know any retailer who sell the goods? many will give you a letter of proof.
Check the RL web site many do carry lists of fake sites.
Have you contacted the co to return the goods?
Is there a returns address on their website?

Not having proof from the real retailer is not a chargeback breaker, just makes it a lot stronger.

I didn't say they would just hand over money.

If it is a possible S75 the card co are likely to look at it a bit closer than one that isn't where they can turn it down outright without any fear of being held responsible.

As someone who works in this field.

It does not work like that.

    Thanks folks.

Nothing obviously on the top that marks it out as a fake. The accompanying paperwork, invoice and packaging is all clearly marked in Chinese however.

There is a Ralph Lauren shop not too far away so I will see if they will give me any paperwork.

I’ll also push back against the card provider and see how Iget on.

    It was less than a £100 so a S75 won’t work I guess

I did ask for a refund, but they told me to clear off!

    Thanks again

Always a risk buying things from china. However as much of the genuine stuff is made there, the. I've seen cases where cheap deals on genuine stuff from the legit factory have been supplied, ultimately you're takin a punt at a cheap price.

Right IF they have told you to clear off and you can PROVE that to a reasonable person you thought you were purchasing the genuine article I would ask for a chargeback as goods not as described. You have nothing to lose but you may have to return the goods by a trackable method!.
