Cooker trouble

Hi, When I switched my electric cooker on earlier it tripped the electric. The weird thing is I can use everything except the front right plate. I can turn this one on but only onto the first setting, anything past that and it trips again. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks.

It could be that the components which control the current for higher plate temperature settings may have gone short circuit.
When you say it tripped the electric, was it the MCB or RCD in your consumer unit (fuse panel)? If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

I'm not really sure what I'm looking at but it's not the main red switch it's a smaller grey one that says split load next to it. That's what I get for cleaning my cooker:D Thanks. It could be that the components which control the current for higher plate temperature settings may have gone short circuit.

That last piece of information may be vital. If moisture has creeped onto the element or controls during cleaning, it may be causing the RCD to trip.
You may have to wait for it to dry out. This may be speeded up by operating all the other hobs on the highest setting and the problematic one on the lowest setting.
Is there a grill or oven underneath?
Have a look at the grey switch that you reset. Does it say 30mA or RCD on it? Does it have a test button next to it?
If not, does it say something like B32 or B40 or it? Then it's an MCB.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

Thanks Myser, it says 30mA and yes it does have a test switch. It has a grill underneath and then a single oven. I always knew cleaning was a bad idea.0

OK, that is the RCD. Most likely, some of your cleaning stuff has reached onto the heating element or controls.
Switch the grill on and all the hobs to drive out the moisture. Hopefully, the cleaning hasn't caused any damage to the control components! If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!
