Spam emails showing well-known brands as the sender id

I've recently had loads of emails arrive in my spam folder that seem to come from well known companies until I hover over the sender name. They come from noreply@ecardsmail.co.uk with names like Marks & Spencer, Thomas Cook, Primark, etc.. Also similar emails arrive from lifestyle@tech-curry.com
I haven't opened the emails and just deleted them forever. But they still keep arriving. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way of stopping them? Any suggestions will be appreciated - thanks in advance.

Standard spammers trick spoof the email sender .
A close investigation of the mail shows they do not come from the address you see .
Message Source in the actual mail gives sender .

Me too, I have had loads just recently, and yes, I understood the trick, but how do we get rid of them, I keep marking them spam, but they keep appearing in the in box. I sent a copy to Marks and Spencer, the real one, asking them to coment but they seemed unconcerned.0

Surely M&S should be concerned at the misuse of their registered name, it is fraud, it is breach of their copyright. If a company the size of M&S can't do anything what hope have the rest of us got?0

I'm sure M&S are concerned but that doesn't mean they can do anything about it.
M&S know how easy it is to do this and they could employ thousands of people for years and get nowhere. There are billions of computers and users connected to the internet, the chances of finding the spammers are slim to none and if they do spend time and resources to track them down the penalties are insignificant.
Consider how many open and unprotected wireless networks there are out there. All you need to do is drive round until you find one, connect your laptop, send a load of spam then drive off. You'd never be caught but that's too much like hard work. All they need to do is persuade some unsuspecting user to download a virus and once they have control send as much spam as they like until the intrusion is detected and dealt with.

All we can do is filter it out and move on.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I've been getting hundreds of email from "noreply@ecardsmail.co.uk" pretending to be many other companies, Boots,M&S, Samsung & Apple to name a few and it seems there is nothing I can do to stop it :sad:0

Block the email address it appears to come from. Who do you have your email with? Try fastmail.fm0

How did they get my email address. This is one that I only use for personal emails. My 'business' email address I always receive unwanted emails for Boots, M&S etc. and I supposed that this is because I used those sites. My personal one is as it is says 'personal' so how have they obtained the address?
Thanks.0 -
One of your 'personal' contacts may have had their account hacked and their address book harvested.
Not everybody is as careful with their email addresses as you are. Spammers always get them eventually.
A good spam filter will catch more than 99% of spam, so use it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Have tried to use a 'good spam filter' with my Yahoo account but cannot work out how to do it. I have the appropriate settings on other accounts but yahoo does not seem to be user friendly to me. The only reason I haven't changed is that I would have to transfer all my contacts and files and folders and don't know an easy way to do it.
Thanks for your reply. Any more suggestions would be welcome.0
