Buying Shares....Newbie Style!

Options
I would like to start investing some of my money into shares.

Is there a way you can buy just £100 worth of shares then just keep adding more each month?

By shares do you mean single companies? Or funds that have shares in them?

If the second, then you can open a S&S ISA and buy funds thru it monthly

Yes you can buy shares through any broker.

However it might not be sensible to do so if you truly are a newbie and have no other investments because:

    1) Costs will eat into your investment
    2) The risk of a single share is very high as you have no diversification

As atush says the most efficient way to invest small amounts is via funds bought inside an ISA.

it will cost £1.50 to buy a £100 worth of shares/month with TD Direct Investing or with iii.co.uk plus .5% stamp duty

    in case you can't workout .5% of £100 its 50p (100 x .005)

so buying £100 of shares will cost £2 or 2%

you'd be better of saving up 12 months worth, buy £1200 and it will cost £7.50 not £24 an extra £16.50 in your shares - over 40 years thats £660!
