Actually the predictions for residuals (I know it's finger in the air, but it's the way to work out fleet costs and leases) show the Duster as being a class leader. It's reckoned that after 60k/3years it will retain 34% of new list. That might sound horrific, but it is very, very good.

Probably the Sandero Stepway..if only to cope with the inevitable potholes..ground clearance is king, I'm afraid.
I don't think this has been properly picked up on by the reviewers yet. The Stepway's ground clearance is 205mm, which is getting into Landrover territory, and quite a bit higher than other jacked-up faux off-roaders. Apparently it is softly-sprung too, so perhaps just the thing for negotiating bumpy urban roads, or the occasional rutted field. It won't handle at all, but some would say that handling is overrated. Maybe this car is a spiritual descendant of the 2CV.

That's still pretty good considering what the current list price is.

Just looking at the "build your own" version on Dacia's website. One thing people will take into consideration is the additional cost for a 5 & 7 year warranty at £395 & £850! 3 year warranties are so yesterday :D

    re-dealer margins?
This has been noted elsewhere.....and the comment [IIRC] was along the lines of 'customers wanting basic transport, no frills...and cannot be bothered with the hassle of negotiating with dealers for discounts.

I can see where they're coming from on that one.....bottom-line pricing, the customer does not have to feel disadvantaged if they cannot negotiate the same sort of deal they'd thought their neighbours got...

Regarding my comments on ground clearance?

No-one seemed to have picked up on the [to me] obvious predecessor.. the Rover 'streetwise' [was it?] 25?

Or..take the side skirts off a Cityrover, and you could drive it to Delhi and back?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

That only had ground clearance of 167mm, according to Google.
