P60 Total Pay Matching Salary Amount?

Hi all,
Apologies if this is a silly question, but have just received my P60 for the previous tax year. I was under the impression that the figure in the 'total for year' box should match up to my agreed annual salary. Is this correct? The amount is quite a few hundred out, I could understand a few pounds to account for weekly/montly calculations but didn't think it would be so much.
My payroll department can get a little uppity if you query things so wanted to check if this was normal and I'm not missing something obvious before speaking to them.
Thanks for any help!

check your pay slips for the year0

I agree; it should match your payslips.
Most payslips show the year to date gross and net salary figures - so just compare with the march payslip0 -
It will or should match what you have been paid not what your salary is.
You may have had some unpaid days and the like that will reduce what you think is your salary amount. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have you had a payrise at any stage since April 2012, or unpaid leave?Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

I believe (but I'm happy to be corrected) that the Pay total shown on the P60 is actually taxable pay, so can exclude items such as payroll giving and some types of pension contribution.0

Thanks for the replies. I haven't had a payrise or any unpaid days and I don't have any other contributions or pensions payments coming out of it.
Will try and check on the payslips - it's a little awkward as the company technically closed down towards the end of last year and then reopened as a new company (it's exactly the same they were just trying to dodge some debts basically) so it shows that I've worked for two different employers and my last payslip only shows my wages from when it started as the 'new company'. Will have to try and find the last one under the old company name.0 -

You are correct. My P60 shows my total pay minus my pension contributions as they are taken from gross salary before tax.0
