Duplicate e-mails?

For some inexplicable reason I am now receiving nearly all of my e-mails in duplicate, any ideas why? This is not only replies from MSE but all of my emails into my in box, Outlook Express 6.
The only thing I have recently done is to install MSGTAG, but this was installed already, just not working OK, I unistalled and reinstalled, everything set as it was previously when it was working OK

Outlook Express Duplicate Remover

Mcafee SpamKiller is also known to cause this problem.
However, if you've recently reinstalled this MSTAG program they have some 'free support' here: http://www.msgtag.com/support/free/ if you scroll down far enough, it will tell you how to uninstall the program. Once done so, leave it uninstalled. As its doing nothing from what I can see other than giving you 'read receipts' for when people read your email. You can do this in Outlook Express anyway, without any 3rd party applications: When writing your email in OE in the very same window you are writing the message in, click the Tools then put a check next to 'Request Read Receipt'.
To request read receipts for all messages in Outlook Express:
Select Tools | Options... from the menu.
Go to the Receipts tab.
Make sure Request a read receipt for all sent messages is checked.
Click OK.
To send a message without the request for a read receipt with the default setting on, select Tools | Request Read Receipt from the message's menu to make sure the item is unchecked.

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Thanks I will take a look at the OE duplicate Remover.
I installed it for the exact reason that you suggest, so I know when a recipient has opened the e-mail, OE's read receipt is not always acknowledged so is not much use if the recipient clicks NO when asked if they want the sender to know they have received the e-mail.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Not sure about the OE duplicate remover, it is not OE's official site and the poor English makes me feel uncomfortableDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

It might be worth looking at the MSTAG 'support' forums if there are any, see whether what you are actually seeing isn't duplicate emails, but instead are the 'read receipts' for the emails you've sent?
If you don't want a freeware (that's free software) approach to the problem. You could try : http://www.ablebits.com/outlook-duplicates-remove or even the list of programs here: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/mail_duplicates.asp
As for microsofts take on this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314578/en-us
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284404/en-us
Personally, I'd download the 'duplicate remover' program, save it to your harddrive. Right click the file, scan it with your anti virus program. If it comes up without any infections. Use the file.

They are definite duplicates, as they are auto e-mails and not replies to e-mails sent by me,i.e. the 2 email replies that you have just made to this thread have come through to my in box in duplicate, both with the same times and details.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

Well assuming that you haven't got: 'leave a copy of my mail on my server' option checked.
Open Outlook Express
Select Tools/Accounts.
Click on the Mail tab, highlight YourAccount and click on the Properties button.
Click on the Advanced tab.
In the Delivery section, select the checkbox to Leave of copy of messages on server.
Select the appropriate checkbox to delete the messages from the server after a certain number of days or until the messages are deleted from the Deleted Items in Outlook Express.
and its not the MSTAG program. I'm out of options. Here's another freeware duplicate remover, the page is in english too

I think I may have sorted it from your 3rd option re microsofts take, I had 2 POP 3 accounts I have removed 1 and sent a test mail, plus the e-mail re your reply to this thread and none of them have come in duplicated.
I had added Google mail to the account and it has a POP3 sever? I have removed that and all now seems OK.

Is this one not just for Outlook ? I have Outlook Express.
It should work with OE, it's my understanding that Outlook and OE are effectively the same program all be it Outlook is the 'proffesional' variant of OE which was supposed to be used for non office based tasks and purely email. Whilst Outlook is intended for 'workgroups' where people have to collate information and communicate with each other and so features a organiser\todo lists and such. Outlook also passes email to Outlook Express as it is this portion of the program it uses for email.

The email part of both programs may be functionally similar, but the format that they use (.dbx and .pst) for storing files is very different.
I have not used any of the programs that are listed above, but personally I would not try to use a program designed for OE with Outlook, and vice versa.
Do you have that many duplicated emails that you can not just delete them manually? It doesn't seem that hard to me, especially if you sort by title, to just control-click every other email and press delete, then empty the trash folder.0
