Selling shares

Hi
A few years ago I inherited some shares in a top UK company when my grandfather passed away. I signed up with Equiniti and since then they have been posting me cheques with dividends twice a year.
Since the value of these shares is quite negligable (<£500), I have now decided the best thing to do is sell these shares and use the proceeds to bulk up my HL S&S ISA.
Problem is, when i use Equiniti Shareview to get a quote they are charging £40 commission for the pleasure which is a huge % of the overall funds.
Who else on the market provides this type of service, and what is the process? I assume I would have to post the share certificate to them before the transaction is completed.
I have used Halifax and HL in the past but this is when I have bought/sold the share online, I have never sold off the back of a certificate I didn't purchase thorugh the same provider.
Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated!

If you have a share certificate you can sell through almost any broker. Cheapest is probably X-O who will sell for £5.95 http://www.x-o.co.uk/
Alternatively, I think you can put the shares in HL's Fund and Share account and sell from there. Costs a little more than X-O but maybe more convenient since you already have an account with HL.0 -
HL offer "bed and ISA" without requiring you to buy back the same shares, which reduces the cost to no more than £5 - http://www.hl.co.uk/shares/bed--and--isa-sipp0

Thanks for the responses - think I'll go for the bed & ISA approach with HL actually.0

Do you have paper shares or are they in a nominee account?
If the former, there are low cost options.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0
