899L tax code

Anyone know why my tax code has changed from last months 765L to 899L this month?

What does this change mean?

Thanks,

Z

  • You get a higher allowance before paying income tax.

You personal allowance has gone from £7650 to £8990.

Basically, you will pay less income tax.

This was the automatic uplift of tax codes due to budget increase. Employers added 134 to all L tax codes.
Do you know why your code is lower than the basic allowance, possibly a taxable benefit?

Can you work out roughly how much someone earns from their tax code?

I.e. 899L means I am eligible to £8,990 tax free, right? But is that an indication as to how much I earn??

The tax code does not indicate how much is earned, only what can be earned before tax must be deducted.

    Thank you!

Also, does anyone know what "Tax period" on my payslips means?

For monthly salary, usually the April salary payment will be tax period 1, May would be tax period 2 and so on.

I.e. June would be tax code 3?

It would be tax period 3, not tax code 3.

What did your P2 Coding Notice say? This gives an explanation of the code.

    I don't know what a P2 Notice is if I'm honest..

Maybe this has occurred as a result of redundancy payout and change of jobs?
