AA Boiler cover not honoured

I had renewed my Home Emergency cover with AA and added on the gas boiler cover in November last year. The gas boiler had been installed prior to our buying the property.
At the time of taking up the boiler cover, the AA rep on phone asked for my boiler details including the model and make, and then proceeded on to confirm the boiler cover.
As part of the boiler cover, a boiler service was included, which I booked for the AA engineer to complete. The AA engineer came last week to my property, and upon looking at the boiler, declared that the service cannot be done as the boiler is too old (over 15 years) and spare parts are obsolete. He further added that the boiler is unsafe to operate due to one of the seal screws on the boiler covering plate missing, and he cannot locate the same type of seal screws from his parts centre. In addition, he said that the cover will not be effective due to no inspection done by AA prior to agreeing to the gas boiler cover.
Now, I understand that the boiler is unsafe to use, so I asked him to cut off the gas supply. However, I am at a loss to understand how can AA decline the gas boiler cover now, when they had noted all the details of the boiler during sign up in November? The AA engineer offered to refund the monthly premiums already collected from my account, but I see this as an escape route by AA to go back on their agreement to provide the cover and service the boiler, and if the boiler is not serviceable, pay towards the cost of a new boiler as per their agreement.
Can I take any action against AA now?

Boiler cover is only valid for boilers up to 15 years old (10 years if not a conventiaonal boiler)
Like most providers of such insurance, cover is subject to an initial inspection.
They've inspected your boiler to discover it isn't covered by the insurance you decided to buy, so have voided the cover.
In the circumstances, I think is is very fair of the AA to refund the premiums you have so far paid for.

Get an independent local GSR RGI in to service and repair the boiler: the odds are that he will be able to source the parts that the AA claim they cannot.
Since you have suffered no loss, what possible claim would you have against the AA now, if they are refunding your premiums? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Like most of us, I suspect the OP has not read the many pages of 'small print' thoroughly. It is standard practice to use any excuse to exclude cover for older boilers.
There are not many parts for any boiler, of any age, that a RGI cannot source. So as suggested above, get a local fitter to repair.0 -

yes i bet you would, the engineer saying the AA would refund your payments being one of them, me thinks someone is in the brown & smellyI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
They only cover boilers upto 15 years old ? Hahahahahaaaa...what a joke.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Its standard to refund premiums if the product was unsuitable for cover without having an initial inspection.0 -
Did you read your T&c's when you took out contract...
If so, did you not ring them enquiring about the age of the boiler clause?Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -

not always, most of these companies put it in their t&c's about the age of the boiler & is down to the householder to read them.
it will def not be down to the engineer to say if payments are to be refunded that is down to the head office & he had no right to say they wouldI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

The same thing happened to me they took on my boiler for cover and when I tried to call them out and when they were taking the details informed me that they no longer covered back boilers. In fact when we went on cover it seemed they didn't cover back boilers. Total shambles.0
