Windows 7 - No Outlook Express. Yikes !

I'm an ex user and fan of Outlook Express and really missed it's absence when I moved to Windows 7. I am using Windows Live Mail in Win 7 now and although it took quite a bit of getting used to I'm finding it quite pleasant to use now.
(
Don't move to W8 then the new version of mail in that, which replaces Live mail is absolutely useless.
I lost OE a long time ago but also had access to the full blown Outlook so am now using this.
Don't forget that Outlook is a part of Office and will often be on the computer along with all the other Office software if you have one of these.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
This won't work, because you can't install WLM under XP. You need Vista SP2 as a minimum.
Just export your old OE address book and folders to a flash drive or USB hard drive, and reimport into WLM on the new PC.
I've done the same recently using Thunderbird and it all worked fine except reimporting the address book. Which in this case was not really an issue, as the friend had no more than 20 contacts in there.
Actually, that's exactly how I tried to do it. In my case the address book exported from OE to WLM via a flash drive perfectly. The saved emails just wouldn't be recognised and I tried all the file format options.
I wonder if this might work ... Put the old disc drive in a USB caddy and mount it on the new computer, then ask WLM on the new computer to import from Outlook Express and give it the path to the caddy drive.

I use Microsoft and I don't mind Windows8. But regarding a free email client, MS have made a big mess. For those used to Outlook Express and XP (there are many) the latest incarnations of WLM have lots of grumbles....Don't forget that Outlook is a part of Office and will often be on the computer along with all the other Office software if you have one of these.
There are mixed messages about Office 2003 (with Outlook) and Windows8. Some people say its fine. Microsoft cannot decide (whether it works or not).
Thunderbird is good. I haven't tried emclient although it sounds highly relevant.0 -

I use 8 too and have got used to it just wish MS would not use things designed for touch screen on things that are not touch screen.
I have never used 2003 on W8 as I have a cough cough version of 2007 running but as the OP was talking about W7 I can confirm 2003 runs OK on that.
As to the problems with live mail I downloaded a bridge from MS that makes Outlook in W8 run like live mail it is probably better than Live Mail itself. But the mail that comes with W8 is pointless (as is the mobile app for outlook that replaced Hotmail had to stop using the Outlook app and move back to K9).I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0
