Triple Dip For Construction - 60 000 Jobs Lost

Construction has not 'surged ahead' - it has shrunk miserably in the UK taking 60 000 jobs with it - an opportunity for growth and making money is being squandered as pent up demand is stifled and potential buyers stay with parents or throw away their earnings in rent - and worst of all... will those precious construction slkills ever come back or be lost forever in a generation? Head of CITB
'CITB deputy chairman Judy Lowe: “The news that Britain has narrowly avoided a triple dip recession is scant comfort to the construction industry. The industry is in a glacial depression. With our Construction Skills Network data showing 60,000 jobs lost in 2012 and a 8% drop in output, it is essential that this key driver of economic growth gets the immediate boost it needs to kick start activity.'

We missed you yesterday DLW.
What do you suggest for construction? Obviously we need more housing construction but but can that be achieved? The current govt seems to have lots of schemes but none of them seem to gain any traction.I think....0 -
What do 'canny voters' with access to social media think about this, I wonder?0

Don't worry dear boy, this will sort it out.

They'll be so many New builds being knocked up, we'll need to bring in half a million Romanian and Bulgarian 'craftsman' to help build them!0 -

DLW has already stated in another thread that the coalitions schemes to help people buy houses are an "omnishambles" whereas the limited scheme for new builds introduced in 2009 by the labour government produced "lashings of growth".
If I was a betting man, which I am, I would say that he will issue some drivel about a stamp duty holiday cos that's what Ed Balls always says.0 -

Yes, the OP's fairly good at talking Balls!0 -
Employment in construction in the UK rose by about 35% between 1997 and 2007. It's reasonable to expect a chunk of that to be given back in the bad times after a boom.
Similarly, 150,000 people in finance in the Square Mile have lot their jobs since the GFC began.
It's sad when this stuff happens but it's what happens in recessions.0 -

Thanks!
(I had already posted that the word was a 'skin of the teeth triple dip avoidance' days ago ...)
Am more concerned now with affordable housing and boosting the construction industry. Ideas? Dificult as these wont happen without confidence - no confidence in Osborne so first step has to be IMF, then The Chop!! Then we'll see (optimism will return and banks will lend - they wont lend under a coalition #Flaky!)0 -

Why on earth would the UK call in the IMF? It's a ridiculous notion0 -
