OH on jobseekers since Jan and has not worked since. I am in full time work. Two kids: one at uni (21) about to graduate ans return home (jobless!) and youngest (18) about to go. I think he is on contribution based JSA for 13 weeks but unsure what happens after that. From searching the internet I note that after 13 weeks he goes on Income based JSA and that this is means tested. My question is: When they say must have £16,000 of savings does this mean solely in his name or does it include my savings as well? If it includes savings in either of our names will he still get his NI credited for pension purposes?
Sorry for this, completely alien territory for us and all the research I have done on the internet doesn't really make it clear.

It will include your joint capital. They will include your savings. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
CB JSA is payable for 26 weeks. The 13 week point is only relevant if you are claiming help with mortgage interest.0

Also after the twenty six weeks is up it would not matter what capital you have because you work full time, over twenty fours hours per week and on this alone he can not claim Income Based JSA0

Thank you for your responses. I thought as much. We have a mortgage protection policy which will pay out for 12 months but OH has to show evidence that he is claiming JSA, but after 26 weeks we are not sure what happens. We have just written to the insurance company to find out what happens. We know they pay out for 12 months but at the moment we have to send evidence that OH is getting JSA but are unsure what happens after that. Our other concern is regarding NI, to make sure he has enough contributions to count towards his pension. Again after 26 weeks, does he continue to sign on to get these or not?Books - the original virtual reality.0
