Hi
I am currently away on secondment in Asia for a year.
I have my mail forwarded to me to my current location - and I have just received two letters telling me that I have failed in my application for credit cards at Capital One and RBS.
This is completely false and it seems that someone is applying for a credit card using my identity! Has anyone come across this? How can I protect myself?

Well the only thing you can do is contact them and the credit reference agencies.0

Hi,
I recently had this happen to me with Barclaycard. When I eventually got through to the correct department (after explaining several times I didn't have a Barclaycard so couldn't give them a number) they sent me a form to fill in. They then confirmed by letter it was fraudulent and placed a CIFAS marker on my credit file, which shows I was the victim of fraud.Nil Illegitimi desperandum carborundum

There is something else you can do which is more effective than a CIFAS marker. Why? Because it is a proactive rather than reactive deterrent.

Compare both systems and decide which one you'd rather have protecting you.0
