I have never noticed grafted toms. Why do they do them when toms are so easy to grow?

Disease resistance, vigour, yield etc comes from the rootstock and flavour from the scion

Have to agree with you there, English was not my strongest subject. I know my grammar is awful. I don't think before I speak. :o

Good of you not to criticise my mis-typed smiley that didn't work

they are always stronger, grow quicker and give you something to be going on with whilst your seedlings are catching up. It gives you the longest possible growing period......well I think so

I would have thought the disease resistance would have to be through the full plant, as things like blight attack the leaves, but then again, I am no plantologist.

So are grafted toms marked up as such, or are they just the toms that are in the garden centres?
What do they graft them onto?

I think we all have much more in common than we realise with all this gardening talk. We have moved our kiwi to the front garden this year as it was bought the same time as a friends and their's is doing so much better.

I need to get some sleep now. Eyes are aching.

Goodnight everyone. A truly amazing bunch of people brought together by chance. :A:A:A
