Apologies i know at lot has been posted.
I have similarly received a£45 civil notice for parking at Lidl issued by Athena.
I parked there late afternoon at 15.40 and actually left my car there for approx 9 hours long after lidl shut at 6pm, moving it at 01:30hrs the following morning....Stupid i know but didn't realise that the car park was camered up as i have parked here for many years without a problem. What do i do next? They have sent me a charge notice with two pictures of my vehicle and registration on. Do i just ignore the charge notice and all further correspondance?? or do i legally have to reply to them?
many thanks

Yes you are safe to ignore it and I would, in your case.
The alternative if you want to, if in England/Wales, is to challenge it like this:
http://www.parkingcowboys.co.uk/appeal-letter/
Then if rejected, do a similar detailed challenge to POPLA. Check out the thread at the top of the forum which gives examples of winning POPLA appeals, they do have to be very detailed and set the PPC up for a fall.
There are certainly legal challenges you could aim at the operator but as you say you seriously overstayed - which is exactly why Supermarkets let these scammers on site! - I would just ignore it completely IMHO. I wouldn't be drawing it to anyone's attention and we'd suggest you need to find somewhere else to park all day.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
