Paying someone else's bill on your own credit card

Options
Hello,
Having heard you can get back up from the credit card company if something goes wrong with a purchase, I thought it would be a good idea if my parents paid for their removals company bill by credit card.
They don't have a credit card so I offered to pay with mine.
My question is, do I have the same back up from the credit card company if something goes wrong on moving day please?
...bearing in mind it's not me moving but my parents, plus my Dad signed the removals contract.
Thanks in advance, for any replies.
Sue

I don't believe you do in the circumstances you've outlined.

The problem is the debtor-creditor-supplier relationship. This has to be maintained in order for the best protection (Section 75) to be maintained.

The supplier relationship in this case is with your dad, not with you, as he signed the contract - but you paid for it.

So you have the debtor-creditor relationship - but he has the supplier one. As such - no section 75 protection. IF you had signed the contract - then it'd be different.

You may have other insurance that may cover you though.

Thanks very much for that - I was suspecting something on those lines.
I'm wondering if my Dad's best bet is to pay by debit card as I think there may be some sort of back up there if goods/services go wrong.
    Thanks again,
    cheers,
    Sue :-)

Ooh, yes - and I'll go help him check out his insurances to see what's there that would help.
    cheers again! :-)

If YOU arranged for the removal work and paid by YOUR credit card, then you'd be ok - even if though it is your parents' stuff.

Given the contract's already been signed, it's probably too late now. If the removal people are willing to cancel the contract and sign a new one with you, then that might work. But you should still check the contract in case there are any special provisions relating to a situation where the contracting party is not the person whose stuff is being moved.
