bank of scotland charges?

I transferred money into my account from a foreign account ( all done in GBP ) and was charged £15. It says on the internet the charge for international payments over £100 is £7 ?
As I am still abroad I can't phone them.
Anyone have any idea why they charged £15 the greedy devils!

Can you clarify exactly what you've done? It looks to me like you have transferred money from an account in another country to your BoS account in the UK, with the money converted to sterling by the sending bank before it's transferred (unless the foreign account was itself denominated in sterling)? Is that correct? Who has applied that £15 charge? Because I would expect that to be the sending bank, not the receiving one, who wouldn't really have any reason to charge you for an incoming sterling payment. The charge listed on the BoS website I'm fairly sure will be for outgoing payments (and £7 is a pretty good deal).

The foreign account is a gbp account and I was charged around £12 to send it. BofS online states a £7 charge for incoming international payments but they have taken £15 for receiving the money

A few years ago, I deposited a small Bankers Draft for approximately 15.20 euros into my Halifax branch. The cashier warned that the charge may not be worth cashing the Draft and estimated it would cost me £12. I let it go through and about 4 days later £12.97 was credited to my account and a letter arrived a little later in the post confirming the transaction and exchange rate and stated that the charge was waived.

I was very pleasantly surprised, because as we all know the Halifax are sharks. I must admit, it was very very nice of them:D

Do you see £15 transaction in the statement? Sometimes intermediary banks take their cut too.

Yes £15 taken off. I guess I will just have to phone them when I get back.
It was HSBC to BoS, would there also be an intermediary?

Just to get this 100% clear, your statement shows £x pounds credited, and then a deduction of £15?
Not just the amount you were expecting minus £15?

Banks can charge a fee for receiving foreign payments. Some do as a matter of course, some don't; either way, they can also charge on top if there was something wrong with the payment (e.g. you just supplied a sort code and account number rather than an IBAN, meaning it took extra work to process.)

The only people who can answer this question are your bank.
