ASDA Cash Back Credit Card

Options
Just wondering if this cash back credit card is worth giving a go, has anyone had any experience of it? It doesn't appear on any best buy listings, in fact I can't see it on any sites other than ASDA's. Offer's 1% on all ASDA purchases, and 0.5% on all others, with no limits to amount receivable.

Well it does depend on what else you spend your money on, etc.

If you spend exclusively at ASDA then its a good card, but if you have a car or shop elsewhere, your more likely to prefer a card like Santander for the 3% cashback on petrol and 1% at supermarkets.

I don't think the Aqua card is still available giving 3% on everything.

The answer probably depends a bit on what your credit file is like, but the Creation Cashback card gives 1.5% on Supermarket and Petrol spending, and 0.5% on everything else, and so beats the asda card. But it does have a limit of £200 cashback being earned per year.

However, if you're likely to hit that cap, I'd suggest you should be either looking at a mixed strategy, and get the amazon.co.uk card (2% on amazon, 1% elsewhere, paid in amazon vouchers) as well, or you could investigate the fee-charging cards listed in the MSE Cashback Article.

Basically, you need to do the sums based on your spending habits. For example, the barclaycard cashback card can be very profitable for certain spending habits, but for others it might be a poor card.

I have tesco and asda, been honest as I shop at other places they work out the same. But now got the clarity so will likely use it more
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It's not in the best buy listings because it's not a best buy. There are also a multitude of similar supermarket cards (the Waitrose and M&S cards are essentially the same as Asda for example - though opposite end of the food spectrum!), and they can't list them all. If you shop there then great, get one, but if not then there doesn't seem much point.

If you look at the best buy tables you will see Amex at 5% for 3 months then 1.25% after (£25 yearly fee), Barclaycard at 6% intro and then up to 2% (£24 yearly fee), the Santander 123 at up to 3% (£24 yearly fee).

The non fee cards such Amazon (2% on Amazon, 1% elsewhere), Capital One (0.5% but £10 yearly bonus), all beat this card unless you shop at Asda.

I'm an owner of the Asda Money MasterCard and to be honest unless you shop solely at Asda you'd be better off looking at the other cash back credit cards on offer.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
