Tenant ending tenancy & S21

We, as tenants, have given notice to the letting agent that we will end the tenancy agreement the day before our June anniversary. We have now received a S21 notice from the agent requiring possession for that same date. This is the 4th time we have rented a property, but the first time I have experienced this. Is this just a heavy handed way to protect the landlord in the event we didn’t move out to allow them to re-let immediately or is this just the norm these days? Last time we rented was back in 2006 so have things changed recently in ‘rental land’?

It’s pointless, your notice is much stronger than a s21 notice.
Under your notice you will be "holding over" if you don’t move out on the date you stated, and can be charged double rent, you can’t unilaterally withdraw it and can be evicted fairly easily (as the tenancy has ended).
Just ignore it and move out as planned.0 -
It's not that heavy-handed really, whether misguided or not they are just trying to give themselves options should you fail to live up to your notice.0
