Cancelling Minibus Insurance

Hi Guys,

Quite new here, so bare with me! :)

I've just got off the phone to my old minibus insurance company and I'm nearly in tears as I feel completely robbed...

After a year of being insured through a broker on our 17 seater minibus, I recently renewed our policy with them for £900 over another year. About 3 weeks in, I suddenly discovered that they required copies of our licences, MOT, V5 and a signed credit agreement sent back to them.

As one of the drivers on the policy was away for 3 weeks, I instructed them that this was not possible and asked what the options were. They said there was nothing we could do, and the policy would expire after the first 30 days. I asked what would happen at this point and they just said that'll be the end and we would need to find a new insurer.

Around 43 days after the start of the policy, they took a second payment (we opted to pay monthly), however I was under the impression that they had cancelled the policy and I called to ask for a refund. To my horror, they said that although the policy had cancelled, they were keeping the £100 they had taken towards cancellation fees?! Further to that, they're now requesting an additional £270 to cover the insurer's costs, admin fees and various other things that they refused to disclose on the phone.

So where I'm at in terms of figures... Month 1 cost us £100 and then they cancelled our policy at their end due to 'lack of documents'. Now we're hit with a total charge of £370 to cancel the policy. All in all, £470 for 1 month's insurance!!

I've moved to Direct Line, who gave us a better price and a discount for having our cars with them too - So very happy here!

Please help me, as their second £100 they took sent me into an un-arranged overdraft and incurred a further fee of £30 from my bank, and I seem to owe them more!! :(

Thanks in advance,

Nick.

Big problem for you... Did the old company cancel the insurance? Did you inform direct line of that?

If you didnt there maybe issues later on. Failing to declare all facts could see DL cancelling your policy also.

Lots of companies wont touch people with cancelled policies.
