hi
this is most likely a daft question to anyone who is technically minded, but as i am not, i am just a little worried
i got an email yest, from my dad's account name,
now, he was at work, and he doesnt really know how to send emails, unless someone was standing over him
the email was copied to me, at work, at home and to my daughters account
subject box read like this oOOO - OOoo - oOOO
and the message read something like
stay at home mums earns thousands without leaving the house, and then some strange looking link was attached
what sould i tell him to do....not use his emails again maybe?
tia, sorry if that sounds daft, tho i do think...the only stupid question, is an unasked one,

He needs to change his email password. Is it a yahoo or btinternet address? (the bit AFTER the "@").0

No it's not a daft question. Sounds like his email account has been compromised. He should do the following:-
1. Change the password on his email account
2. Do a full virus scan on his computer0 -
thank you both,
its firstnamesurnamebirthyear@btinternet.com

You shouldn't really tell us the format of the username.
I only wanted to know the bit AFTER @
There is a common problem with Yahoo/btinternet emails at present.0 -
Hi, my Dad's Yahoo account was hacked yesterday too, now today I keep getting DNS failure when I try to access the internet (same computer). I've had 105 error message and now a 102 error (which said network was changed). I've reset Yahoo email passwords but how far should I go re other passwords? I'm doing a full Norton scan at the moment. Any advice appreciated0

(Assuming you can download files from the internet on a computer somewhere?)
Re. DNS failures. Try switching computer off, then switch off BT router (or home hub assuming you are with BT); wait a few seconds; swith router back on; wait 2 mins; switch computer on. Sorry - trying the easy things first.0 -
don't know why people use yahoo its full of security holes then people wonder why there info has been hacked or compromised simple if it was me my top recommending bin them use someone else!

also the people that change there password use an alpha numeric password only you would know and the longer the better.
also emails format never ever use first names surname and then date of birth just given everyone your info for phishing scams next be his bank accounts to get hit just use something inconspicuous that has no relation to you of your personal info. also hope there is no bank account info hidden away in his email account or its looking very high odds to get hit!

Thanks for replies. No bank account info in his emails so fine there. He doesn't use his account much just for the odd email to his sister, he has an account with Sainsburys/Nectar, I've just changed his password. My email address is given as his password reminder address and odd thing is Yahoo sent me a copy of his account hacked email, I've checked my activity page and all is fine. Can they access my account from his?0
