How much can be reasonably charged for old statements?

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this?

I'm rationalising a few years' worth of details, and have kept everything relevant except for all my credit card statements, which I need to complete the picture. I made a quick enquiry of one provider the other week, who started off at £5 per statement!

Is there a limit on the amount that can be charged for credit card statements specifically, or can they charge what they like?

This could cost me hundreds.

Thanks,

Matt

use the standard data protection act request (see reclaiming articles for more information), and it should cost a maximum of £10.

But that does not necessarily mean you'll receive ‘statements’ in the format you know.

It can be just a continues print-out of all the relevant entries.

As to the original question, they can charge what they like - they have already sent you one copy so if you choose to bin/shred/burn etc it then that's your choice.

Most, if not all banks now though will send you proper statements rather than computer jargon if you put a DPA request in.
