Not sure why the sub heading says couldnt agree more ??? must be left over from a previous post
Sorry to hijack your thread but...;)
My child suffers from visual stress, scotopic sensitivity / meares irlen. His symptoms are alleviated through the colouromitry precision tinted lenses. Screening alone cost anything up to £80 then at least £125 for the lenses then you have to pay for the frames on top. But they really help and he has gone up 2 reading levels in 4 months since having them where as before he would go up a reading level a year if we were lucky!
There is a petition going to get the NHS in England to subsidies these costs for children under 19. Funding is available for uni students across England and they are free in Scotland and some local health authorities subsidise the cost but not many. They make such a difference to children and adults affected its silly that there is not help with the costs consistently !
Back to original question I really don't know the answer sorry'we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing'0 -
My son wears glasses all day and struggles in the sun on holidays AND in our country (I know it's rare
).
He recently had his routine eye test at specsavers and got some new glasses (we normally get him a pair of subsidised designer ones) the offer for free prescription sunglasses was on, we were told we could pick a designer frame and pay the reduced rate to have tinted lenses in or just pick some cheap and cheerful sunglasses. We opted for the cheap and cheerful ones as he won't really wear them that often so they were free.0 -
If you have a pair of your daughter's old prescription glasses and the prescription hasn't changed or is only slightly different, your optician should be able to tint these for you. We did this a couple of years ago and from memory I think it cost £10 or possibly £20 - but certainly was cheaper than buying prescription sunglasses. (It was my optician who suggested we do this.)0

Thanks all.
Why do some people get on there high horse about every post. I just wanted to know if my DD was entitled to subsidized sunglasses.
Yes I can afford to go on holiday because I worked very hard at school studied for years in my job. It really bugs me when peopel say "oh its alright for you", but me and my OH both come from working class backgrounds and grew up in council houses (which Is no shame) but we worked hard and did not take the easy stress free work route that many of our friends did.
I have never claimed a penny for any type of benefit (other then child benefit) neither has by OH who is self employed. We both have paid into the government coffers for years so I do not see why I should not have what I am entitled to back if it is available.
There are plenty of people I know who have never paid a penny in and get plenty out (much more than they should in my view and they can afford to go on holiday too even though they have never worked!).

I don't know if this helps, but as an alternative, perhaps you could look at some clip/slide on sunglasses. My mum purchased some a while ago as her vision means glasses are ridiculously expensive, so couldn't afford both, and they are brilliant. The place she got hers from do kids as well as adults, called eyedeas4u.com.
