economy 10 tariffs

Options
Hello,

I apologise if there is already a thread on this. I'm a bit new to this.

Can anyone help me find the best economy 10 tariff about?

I can't even seem to find out who offers Economy 10 any more. We have just moved house and have been automatically put on Southern Electrics Standard tariff on an Economy 10 meter. I am sure there got to be a cheaper deal than that!?

Thanks in advance :j

This is an old tariff which virtually no one offers any more. It has been replaced with Economy 7

I was on this with Southern Electric 5 years ago. I moved to OVO on a full standard tariff which was cheaper than the Economy 10 off peak rate. I saved £1000 per year by moving off the tariff and not using the storage heaters connected to Economy 10.

Does the heating system at the property make sense with economy 10? (will you be able to use the cheaper unit prices)?

Assuming economy 10 makes sense for you, then I'd probably do a phone around of all the main suppliers (Scottish, Eon, Npower, British Gas) and a few of the newer ones to see who if anyone offers it any more. I would make sure you know your supply number (mpan) so they can check your exact details.

I found a list of suppliers on this website:

    HTH.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • We've just moved in and it's a rented property so don't think I'll be able to change to another meter. The water is on a storage tank and the heating is under floor. I don't think I'll need to use the heating that much anyway as we are in a flat so getting a lot of heat from downstairs. :rotfl:

I'm a stay at home mum so can use the off peak charges in the afternoon and evening the night time one is a bit redundant as we are all asleep :p

If it is an old tariff does that mean not many companies will offer it any more? Should I ask the landlord to change the meter? I'm usually so good at getting the best deal but economy 10 is not so simple!!!

Thank you for listing the companies, I guess that's my next job:)

I don't think a landlord has the power to stop you. They may insist that you put back the old system when you leave though. Somebody else can comment further on this.

If you don't have storage heaters, I don't see how Economy 10, or even Economy 7 can be cost effective for you. Remember that in order to get those nice cheap off-peak units, you will pay a premium on all your peak units.

Again, I would think a nice cheap flat-rate tarrif would be more cost effective for you.

    Hi
I have an economy 10 meter, most comparison sites don't offer this option. However I swapped to ovo standard energy via uswitch and saved money. SSE were charging 0.016p peak and 0.0875 off peak. Our usage was 50/50. Changed to Ovo at 0.0925 with no issues late last year

    the heating is under floor.

    :)

It sounds like you have off peak under floor heating. You need to be aware that this type of heating generally needs an afternoon boost to be effective. If the E10 tariff you have (I know off peak in York's is 1-4pm boost), also don't be too sure you won't need the heating in the winter.

As others have posted have a look for E10 tariffs online
