PC World

My wife went for a hospital appointment this afternoon, after I dropped her off I went down to my local PC World - just for a browse round and waste some time.

My first impression was that it resembled a Focus store in the few months before they collapsed.
Huge areas of floor space were empty as were lots of the shelves. They had about a dozen laptops on display and just THREE desktops, one large area of empty floor had 3 Canon printer boxes stacked up with one printer balanced on the top.
A few months ago they had a store full of stuff.

Are they going the way of Focus ??

PS: There were less potential customers in there than the number of desktops.
PPS: I went to B & Q instead :D:D

Might just be that branch that is going.

Dixon Store group had a good Christmas according to their January trading statement, and the ones near me don't sound anything like the one you've been to.

I went to PC World in a hurry a few weeks ago looking for a USB A->miniB cable. It took 2 members of staff two laps of the store before they decided that they either didnt sell them or didn't have any in stock.

I asked them if they knew where there was a computer shop locally, but they didn't get it.

PC world is a run down business in my opinion. What do you expect to happen to them if majority of their employees only care about ripping customers off and when customers are facing technical issues with their hardware, then they just couldn't give a flying so and so but only do something when you talk back and put them back in their place.
  • I think that if there is a Currys near a PC World, same group, they are closing one or the other.

The staff are only as good as the training and wages they get. Most of them would be fine if PCW spent the time & money that Maplin spend training their people.

I have always found answers in a Maplin store, to the most technical of questions.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Sorry, I've got to laugh. My local Maplins is staffed by clueless kids. If you're lucky there may be a supervising adult to help out. It's a pity because Maplins used to be the preserve of knowledgeable electronics gurus, but not any more.
The one killer advantage that high street shops like PCW could have over online vendors is good personal customer service. Oh but they can't even get that right. They appear to think that we'll all be impressed if they employ under-trained salespeople who dish out incorrect advice, and try to flog us over priced cables and expensive warranties.

There's a retail park I know of with a Curry and PC World.

There's more solid-state drives and hard drives on display in Curry than PCW ...

    My first thought.

Our local PC World closed its store and moved in with Currys as well.
