Royal Mail SD 'Saturday Guaranteed'

I posted an eBay parcel off today, Friday, by Special Delivery but the PO woman said that Special Delivery is a Monday to Friday service and that if I pay an extra £2 they would guarantee do deliver by 1pm on Saturday. I said OK and paid the extra £2 as I was meant to post it yesterday and had told my buyer that he would have it by the weekend.
Now what I want to know is have I been ripped off? I've sent loads of SD parcels off on Friday's before and they have always arrived on the Saturday and have never been asked if I wanted to pay £2 extra for Saturday.
Is this a little money making scheme on the side?

special delivery items sent on friday are guaranteed next working day delivery by 1pm which is the monday, but they usually arrive on saturday.
by paying £2 you are guaranteeing saturday delivery by 1pm0 -
But when I enter the tracking number on Royal Mail's website it says they have received my item and expect to deliver it by the guaranteed time on 21/05/07. Surely this should be the 19th?0

I dont think RM have updated their website for Saturday deliveries...its still allowing the weekend when calculating dates.
My rule of the thumb is if its a private residential address its going to then Friday normal Special Deliveries seem to get delivered but if its an office or other workplace then the postie is more likely to leave it till Monday.0 -
Give them a call and speak to someone?

track it again about 2pm and they should tell you if its been delivered today or not
if not then you should get a refund of the postage cost0 -
Saturday Guarantee is an official procedure used in Post Offices - it's on our computors and the date on your reciept should be correct - Saturday isn't classed as a working day so Royal Mail seem to feel that they are putting themselves out to deliver on a Saturday. The only reason the website would possibly say that is that all we do differently is put a yellow SG sticker on the package, no official computor work goes on/no extra barcode/no extra tracking number - so the system is probably just assuming its a normal SD.
Ring the number on your reciept rather than using the website I'd suggest. And obviously if the case is in fact that it did'nt get delivered on Saturday - you can claim to Royal Mail.0 -

the decsion to leave special deliverys is not up to the postie it it all fall down to the local delivery office Postie will only leave it until monday if is 100% certain that the firm or work place is Closed on Saturdays. but if the customer has paid the premium to have it delivery on sat then this will be delivered to acordingly
