Black and Decker GL 565 Strimmer. How do I replace to spool

I have a black and decker GL565 Strimmer and I have purchased a replacement spool and line. However I cannot remove the old Spool no matter how hard I tug or turn. There seems to be a plastic screw in the middle but that does not turn or look if it should turn. Can anybody help please

Here you will find the instructions:-
    http://service.blackanddecker.co.uk/PDMSDocuments/EU/Docs//docpdf/gl200_uk.pdf
    Go down to page 7.
  • Instructions above are for Black and Decker Strimmer GL200/300 not GL565 which is different. we still cannot remove the spool it seems to have a plastic screw at the top but it does not turn. Maybe it isn't meant to. any further suggestions would be most welcome.

In a matter of just over 5 mins I found the instructions for the 565. I think you are just waiting for someone else to do the work for you. Sorry but that aint gonna be me. Get the Google page open and sort it.
  • I have the GL565 and am also at a loss as to how to remove the spool. I have googled the instructions and one of the links brought me to this forum, where I find that the only person that replied to a request for help, responded with an arrogant reply to the question. In that djohn2002uk suggested that while he knew the answer, he was not going to pass it on and that we should find the answer by googling it. Very helpful djohn2002uk, especially as your first posting sent us on a wild goose chase via a link to instructions for an entirely unrelated model.
This aside, an exploded diagram on the Black and Decker website does show that the spool is held on by a nut. The only thing that I have been able to see on my GL565, is what appears to be the head of a chewed up plastic nut. There does not appear to be any instructions indicating which direction the nut should be rotated, i.e. clockwise or anti-clockwise direction and as this is obviously very tight, does seem to be impossible to remove. Who knows, maybe the assembly parts have been modified by the manufacturer, rendering the diagram obsolete.
Any REAL help would be much appreciated.

There. That's the answer you deserve comming on here and attacking someone in your first post. Unless of course you are the OP under an alias. Sounds about right for you.

One of the things to note about this strimmer is that if you look it up at the B&D website that djohn2002uk kindly linked to, the drawings of that model show that the design of the spool assembly changed during production - after datecode 9301-7 it's completely different.

So you need to be sure that any manuals that you find match the correct version of the spool assembly.

  • I've just done it, you hold the wide part of the collar and turn the part of the collar that goes around the spool anti-clockwise (you might notice they're two separate pieces - both orange) and you can access the spool from there
