Faulty DFS Armchair

Hi,

I hope someone out there can help me, this is my first post on MSE so I apologise now if I have done anything wrong! :)

My partner and I bought a sofa and armchair from our local DFS store when we moved in to our home (I think by cheque or debit card but I'm struggling to remember which). Not long after we bought it one of the arms on the chair went funny and sort of collapsed, and now the springs have totally gone and have ripped through both the base of the chair and the top of the seat where the cushion sits. Due to the springs being on the outside (where they shouldn't be!) it has ripped both a chunk out of the carpet and damaged the cushion too. You also end up almost sat on the floor and getting out of the chair can take a while! The sofa is still fine and apart from the odd mark looks almost as good as when we first got it.

I haven't yet contacted DFS, and here's why - we bought the set a little over 6 years ago. At the risk of sounding stupid and really embarassing myself :embarasse would I still be able to ask for a repair or refund of at least some of what we paid for it ie. would I be able to use the 'fit for purpose' angle?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I hope you don't think I'm too stupid for asking!

Lots of other good stuff in there too... well worth a read.

I think DFS offer a ten year guarantee so give them a ring and see if they will repair it.

  • Just wanted to say thank you to you all, for your help and replies to my post. I've called DFS and they're going to send someone out to us to have a look and see what they can do! Yay!!
There's no call out charge which is a bonus and they can't promise that they'll be able to repair it for nothing as the 10 year guarantee wasn't something they offered when I bought the sofa, but at least it's a start!! :T

    Thanks again,

    One Happy MSE'r :D
