Congestion charge change - Thanks for nothing!

Hmmm, I wondered when something like this would happen but do they really think they should punish Eco car drivers after purchasing there ozone friendly cars? After all you wouldn't buy most of them for there stunning looks. Then move the goal posts to make it so laughably stupid?

Here's a link from the BBC website now stating the new greener rules approved and now changed to under 75g :-

Now here's a link for vehicle CO2's:-

The closest is a Yaris Hybrid at 79, So they may as well as said all cars pay! I guess fully electric like the Leaf must still qualify?

Note the payment changes and increase in fines as well .....

They don't think anything, they are just collecting money and the eco bandwagon is an easy way to do it.

Yup. Revenue has dropped due to too many people buying low CO2 cars.

Expect something similar to happen with VED soon.

Not the major point of your post I know, but for what it's worth I think car pollution has little if anything to do with the ozone layer. It's more CO2 induced climate change that is the concern.

I know what you mean and totally agree. Years ago it was acid rain and where are we now with it in between the other pocket pulling excuses? Ah yes, climate change!

I wish they would tax the prius mini cabs out of central London, their drivers are a nightmare.

Acid rain was a major environmental problem in some areas and huge amounts of work have been done to take the sulphur etc. out of fossil fuel emissions to stop it.

It was not a 'fake' problem and it did not just disappear by accident.

If you travel to Russia or China (and I do) then you will see that in the areas of the world where this hasn't been dealt with it can still be a serious problem.

Climate change, yes, there is some debate over that. But acid rain was no simple excuse (though I can't say that everything that was done in its name was justified).

Most likely the VED bands will shift at some point downwards so to get "free" road-tax it will be 85grams, with everything shifting down (currnt band A pays band B prices, current B cars pay band C etc), adding more onto the higher bands as well.

It's an attempt to set the goal-posts even lower for the car makers to make

Electric cars work out at about 80 to well over 100 g/km CO2 as well, in emissions from the power station generating their electricity, so if the categories are being tightened they shouldn't be free either
  • Just like other taxes, the national parasite is consuming itself, when the motorist is picked clean who next i wonder?
