Burst pipe liability query

In which case trust your insurance company, the landlord is just hoping for double indemnity - i.e. trying to Claim on Yours rather than his own...0

When I was looking for quotes for my parents LL insurance, I was told by an insurance person that "if you tipped the house upside down, anything that would not fall down is considered fixtures and fittings". So AFAIK that would include fixed and fitted carpets and flooring (but not mats). If, as you say, nothing you did could have caused the burst pipe then I think it would be up to the LL to claim from his insurance.0

Used to work in the carpet retail business, and dealt with a lot of insurance claims. Carpets are contents, wood/laminate floors are buildings.
Not your problem though, I'm guessing he has buildings only insurance, rather than a specialist landlord policyUnless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -

Carpets are contents not buildings, Paul the Painter has explained it correctly0 -
Because the landlord let the property 'unfurnished' he probobly took out LL's Buildings insurance, but not Contents.
Carpets are contents, so he now realises his caroets are uninsured, so is trying to get you to claim.
Not your problem. (unless you caused the leak which you say you didn't).
Some LL's Buildings insurance policies include a basic Contents cover (eg £3 or £5000), specifically to cover the cooker, fridge, carpets, curtains in unfurnished rented property.
But this LL chose a policy without this.0 -

In my experience the vast vast majority of Landlord's leave out the contents element even though it costs circa £10 as they're adamant nothing will happen to their contents0
