Is Genes Reunited a scam site?
Yesterday I registered for their 15 day free trial but when the acknowledgement came through it said I had to pay money after all. So I cancelled the free trial within 2 minutes of my request.

I've since had an email from Genes Reunited claiming I am not allowed to cancel and they will not refund the money they took from my card. (I didn't enter any card details). They also claim they wrote to me 2 weeks ago even though yesterday was the first time I visited the site.

I've since found claims of Genes Reunited scams on MSE from 2009 & 2011. Looks like the bad practice is continuing.

Is Genes reunited a scam ? No

Do people have a habit of not reading the terms and then claiming they have been hard done by ? Yes, not saying its what has happened in your case.

How can they say you cant cancel and wont refund you the money when you didnt enter card details ?

Ive just registered on the site and I wasnt asked to pay money in the email, theres a link at the bottom of the screen for upgrade your membership now and thats it.

Auto-generated / default script messages, without having looked at that client's actual status?

Bad practice is certainly continuing, but in this case it's the people who fail to read what they sign up for...

Have they taken any money from the card in question?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

OP said they didn't enter ANY card details. Although I'd be surprised ... most "free" trials require card details.

I know that, but it could just be an errant email from GR. Assuming the OP is correct in that he didn't enter any details, then that would be the most likely answer

No I definitely didn't enter any card details so they can't have taken any money. I cancelled the free trial before agreeing to sign up to either one month or one year. I reckon it must be a lazy standard reply as the OP above says. I've replied as such, so hope that's the last I'll hear. Thanks folks.

OP means Original Post or Original Poster.

YOU are the OP, not me. ;)

It could mean Outstanding Poster which would clearly refer to me :p
