Washing machine timer set, but door open

Hi,
My wife set the timer on our washing machine, then didn't load it and left the door open and then went out for the day.
I'm assuming when the timer triggers, the wash won't start as the door isn't closed. I'd appreciate it if anyone can confirm this though, otherwise I really need to start heading home to avert a flood!!!
Thanks

Mine won't start if the door is open (I know because a couple of times I went to empty it and found that I hadn't closed the door tightly).
It's an indesit but I would have thought it would be a safety feature on all machines.0 -
Mine is an LG, wont start unless door is closed.
I agree with 2gg, I think this will be the same with all machines.Herman - MP for all!

I'm sure you've nothing to worry about, there's a cut-out to stop it working until the door is shut properly.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Thanks folks. I thought that would be the case, but good to have feedback on those lines!0

I agree about them having to be shut.
Although I once left a small piece of material sticking out, which was not enough to make the seal be "open" but enough to act as a wick for the water to come down and leave me with a big puddle! I am now very careful to make sure everything s tucked inside!0
