    You need to have cleared funds in the account the working day before the payment is due. Think of it like this:
    on the first of the month, your payments are requested from or issued out of your account in the small hours of the morning
    some time later (but still early) your salary is paid in
    between those two things happening there is a 'vacuum' of money in your account meaning the payments out can't leave, therefore you get charged. If the bank chooses to pay the items anyway you will be overdrawn and will get charged.

    Move your payments to the 3rd of the month and you'll be sorted.

    Can you name the bank as that is not the way it is meant to happen.
