bedroom carpet

I have picked up some samples from the local carpet shop today & they run from 14.99 - 17.99 sq m - should cost between 240 - 290 as my bedroom is 4m sq

my mother looked at me in horror & said she wouldn't pay no more than 7.99 sq m for bedroom carpet - am I being that naive & a soft touch for the chap at the shop - or is my mother out of touch on prices

he did have some cheaper on rolls, but the colour wasn't quite right

    Hi there

It's like with everything really, prices can vary greatly. Tiles for example can be as little as £2 sq/mtr going into hundreds.

We have just bought a bedroom carpet and we shopped around and found prices did vary greatly from £5 sq mtr to £45 sq Mtr (for those that we liked).

I really wanted a pure wool content carpet and in a neutral shade (cream and light beiges etc) but was advised not a great choice as this for the bedroom plus needed to take into account it was a guest room and not much use most of the time.

In the end we bought a cream carpet 80% wool content for about £6 sq mtr from a carpet warehouse in Birmingham.

We also went to Kidderminster which was once the home of the carpet industry and they had tons of stores and places so prices were competitive.

Check out the site below to give you an idea of the different types of carpet and their content so you can decide what you want to go for. Then start hunting around in order to compare prices. People say you get what you pay for but if you shop around you can get it for cheaper.

The site does state you are looking at paying on average £20 sq/mtr for good quality carpet but bearing in mind their links and sponsers are carpet companies who are quite expensive.

I do honestly think you can get cheaper carpet then what you have been quoted without having to compromise on quality.

    Sorry about the essay!!!

    Good luck.
  • just looked on the back of the samples - none of it has any wool, all man made fibres but it's stain guarded & hessian backed
