Prepayment meter usage vs credit meter

Right, this is going to sound odd and I hope it makes sense.

Last week we had credit meters put in having had prepayment since we moved in last August.

Throughout the winter we averaged at £30 per week on the gas meter, obviously this was winter usage and it suggests that if that was all year kwh would be 22000.

After one week on the credit meter the usage is30m3 which is suggesting 17700kwh per year.

(Obv actual annual usage would be different to account for summer but the above calculations are hopefully comparing like for like)

The heating has been on for the same amount of time as over winter etc no changes.

Is there any reason that the apppliances would be more efficient on a credit meter? Have I missed something here?

Would edf have a record of our actual kwh usage on prepayment for me to compare?

    No, it hasn't.
    It's coming up for spring.
To drop 20% in your energy use means the in-out temperature difference needs to rise by about 20%.
If it's averaging 2C warmer than the previous period, (10C average, not 8C) that'd cause the entire difference.

We don't have a thermometer on the heating so it is just on for a set time each day.

now you say it thiugh, the ambient temperature will affect the energy used for the boiler to heat to its set temperature which makes sense. Gahh, I can be a numpty at times!

There appears to be something wrong with the conversion to Kwh and/or projected Annual use figures

Each unit on a Metric meter produces appx. 11.2 chargeable Kwh, so if it has recorded 30 Meter Units since it was installed a week ago, 336 Kwh have been used - However in Summer when you don't need the heating, gas use is reduced by roughly 80%

Roughly multiplying this up for 26 Winter weeks at 336, (8,736), plus 26 Summer weeks at 80% less, (1,747), gives a crude measure of Annual consumption as 10,123 Kwh

    Assuming a tariff of:
    4.3p a Kwh x 4.3p... £435.28
    S/charge 22p a day... £ 80.30
    + VAT ..................... £ 25.78
    Year Cost ............... £541. 36 (£10. 41 a week )

The really good thing about Credit meters is that they open avenues to Discounts for Paying by D/Debit and Online billing - So visit a few Switch sites to see whats on offer
