                    Hi guys,
I wasn't sure if I should merge this with my other thread, but should hopefully be a quickly, especially as my auction soon ends
I jus got an iPhone 5 and am selling it sealed and new on ebay, a seller has just asked me if it comes with a warranty. I know it would be under warranty for me if I used it. But if I sold it, would they have the warranty?
Regards,
Icey370
P.S. sorry everyone for more questions

Yes, Apple will honour the warranty no matter who takes the phone into them. However I am not certain if it will run from when you purchased it or from when it first gets turned on - I think it depends on your phone provider.0

            A very good point.
I would have thought purchase date but you never know?0

I havent had to go into Apple for a repair so my reply is a general term, manufacturers can pinpoint via the serial number where and when an item was purchased if a service call is needed its Jan 1st of that year it is taken as, if no till receipt is available.
But in most UK sales of items, from the date you "the original buyer from the shop", got the item ,it has 12 full months of warranty, regardless who owns it respectfully after you ,so say, if you buy it in the Feb 2013 and do not open it or decide pass it to someone in May 2013 for example, it would then have warranty of 8 mths left, expiring in Feb 2014 , and the buyers of your item will need to have YOUR original point of purchase follow the item
So ,do remember to include your receipt for their use, if selling an item with warranty left on it, to simplify things ,in case they should require it, if phone stops functioning, and they will see also be able to see, that the item was bought in the UK and from a retailer, thus , piece of mind for the buyer to know it wasn't stolen item /or a copied Iphone from China which can happen.NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

If you take an Apple item to an Apple shop for a repair, they can see from the serial number when and where it was purchased and don't ask to see a receipt.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Of course, anyone can register a product online using its serial number ,but manufacturers only honour warranty via seeing a physical till receipt/online copy of receipt/bank statement .
So ,do remember to include your receipt for their use, in case they should require it, if phone stops functioning, and they will see also, that the item was bought in the UK and from a retailer, thus , piece of mind for the buyer to know it wasn't stolen item /or copied Iphone from China which does happen too often am afraid!
With respect, this is codswollop. I do genuinely mean the 'respect' bit because you may or may not have a point about most transactions-but Apple are different. As the poster after you said correctly-all Apple use to determine the warranty is the serial number. It can change hands as many times as you like-as long as the item is still under warranty Apple will replace (not repair-just swap with a brand new item). And you don't need a receipt.
With regards to length of warranty-it is generally 12 months from the point at which you first activate the item via iTunes and the Apple servers pick this up. I say 'generally' because sometimes there are exceptions to this rule. We have seen items in sealed boxes (obviously not activated) have warranties that are already in force. However, this is very rare. On the most part, it's 12 months from first activation.
How do I know all this? We've now sold over 2000 iphones and iPads on eBay:)0
