council house tenant rights

I live in a council property and would like my boyfriend to move in but he owns a flat, he is unable to live in this flat himself as he is now on sick pay and it doesnt cover the mortgage. So was wondering can he move in without me losing my house :o

Your boyfriend moving in shouldn't affect whether you keep your house.

You might have (at least) two other problems though:

If either of you are claiming benefits, moving in together and becoming one household will likely affect those benefits.

Your boyfriend is liable to make payments to his mortgage lender regardless of whether he lives in his house or not - or do you mean he's going to sell it before he moves in with you?

Is your boyfriend claiming any benefits he is entitled to? Could he get Support for Mortgage Interest and/ or council tax benefit? Presumably his savings cover his mortgage the first couple of months anyway.

You would need to ask the council if you can bring in another tenant, we can't answer that for you. As Annisele says how is your boyfriend going to cover the mortgage? If he wants to let he needs to read his long lease to see if he is allowed, apply for consent to lease from the lender, read up on the reams of legislation he would need to comply with.

Personally I would not want to do that whilst long term sick, and any income from letting would affect means-tested benefits anyway as would your income. You could end up supporting him, can you afford to?
