Switch current account or not (credit history related)

It's highly tempting to switch current accounts to First Direct. However, lack of stability is the only real negative in my credit history.

I rent and have moved fairly regularly over the past few years - 18 months in the current flat is a new record! I have also changed jobs fairly regularly - between 9 and 18 months at each of my past 4 jobs, no periods of unemployment.

Is having been with my current bank for 16+ years something I should hold onto considering? I have no major purchases coming up but I am saving for a house deposit and hope to get a mortgage in 1-2 years.

To be honest, with the other (in)stability factors I'm not sure a long 'time with bank' will help much at all.

That said, don't close the old account down. By all means switch to FD for the £125 (or whatever), but keep the old account open and ticking over.

Just out of interest, even though you've moved addresses many times have you always been registered on the electoral roll? ie are you 'traceable' for the last 3-6 years via your credit files?
