fake item received from ebay

I am not having much luck with ebay today :(

I brought what was described as a genuine links of london bracelet (a birthday money treat). I even sent the seller a message checking the item was genuine and letting them know I knew how to spot a fake! they replied stating the item was genuine so I paid.

It arrived and was fake. I opened a case and never heard anything so escalated the case. I have now been asked to return the item. I don't mind but I have to pay the return postage, it came in a box so will cost 3.70 plus petrol. I don't think I should have to pay this charge for a start the seller has broken the law by passing fake goods off as real.

Is there anything I can do to get re-embursed for the return postage?

You will need to pay return postage Hun and make sure it goes royal mail special otherwise they can claim non receipt :-) depending how the seller is,sometimes they offer to pay return postage, if it was I me I would prob send them a message stating you don't feel you should be responsable for return costs given the item is clearly fake, you might get lucky and they offer to pay ;-)

Nothing sold as "Tiffany" or "Links of London" or "Pandora" etc is ever genuine on ebay. Been that way for years - when will people learn?!

I disagree I have purchased both genuine Tiffany and links of london via ebay before, you have to know what you are looking at and this time I admit I took my eye off the ball :(

Please check with Ebay, fakes IF fakes really should not be returned.

Check with the appropriate authority / manufacturing people,
    check with trading standards ....

as for the return P&P if they are selling fakes than they are not likely to do the right thing and refund the return P&P :-(

this is what I would have thought but it is ebay telling me to return it (via the buyer protection procedure - I opened the case stating counterfeit item) I really don't mind sending it back (apart from the cost) I have no use for it, but it is worrying that the seller could just relist it. I would be much happier sending it to trading standards that way they would know I haven't scammed the seller and it is fake and the seller would not be able to re-list (yes I know this will never happen but it would be good it it ever did - stop a lot of the fakes in circulation)

I have just received a message from ebay with a pre-paid label which I stick on the parcel and take to the post office :)

I still wish it was not going back to the seller for them to try to con someone else but there is nothing I can do about that. I will just leave negative feedback and hope other buyers read it.

For futrue reference this was NOT the correct postal method.

You needed Special Delivery assuming the item was of value and you wish it to be insured and the parcel to track.

Thanks for generalising all those that sell those brands on eBay that are genuine.

I buy all that sort of stuff from a Costco returns auction. Pay around £45 for a bracelet and 3 charms including fees, separate them and get around £90 back.
