Approved then declined for Card

in Credit cards
Hi would like some thoughts as i'm astounded.. here goes
I applied for a card and had a letter saying they needed proof of address and id. I provided passport and bill as proof.
When I called they said 'you where accepted automatically by the system' but when we did more checks we re scored you and you didn't meet our criteria.
How can a company accept me, then decline me??
I provided everything they asked for in order to receive my card so what gives?
My credit report shows nothing out of the ordinary/
Any Ideas guys?
Thanks

sounds like barclaycard ?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

surely its strange wouldn't you say... Not barlcays0

All I can say is that it happens. You weren't actually accepted, you were referred, hence the request for further info. For whatever reason, they then declined you.0

Don't be offended on this occasion you didn't meet their criteria apply again in 6 months0

Yes, card companies can decline you for what ever reason they like, but like others have said it sounds like Barclays they do have a habbit of doing this.0

Would suggest looking at all of your credit reports, not just one - pay no attention to the score or the rating - but see if any of them has anything on you.0
