3 years ago British gas put me on a tariff for the old & sick for which i was grateful. i forget the name of this scheme.
Being the naive and trusting soul from a bygone age i assumed this was something that would remain in place. out of curiosity i clicked on their 'tariff check' only to find that i am on what appears to be the highest tariff ???
does anyone else have this problem?

If you were on the Essential tariff this ended and the final accounts came off it in July last year and you would then have been put on to the standard tariff. You would have received a letter to advise you so that you could check alternative tariffs also. The tariff was replaced by the Warm Home discount which you would have been invited to apply for.

The government wanted to remove social tariffs from all suppliers as the criteria was different for them all so confusing for customers. The WHD is now being run in association with the Government.

The assessments for the WHD will be opening again in the middle of May. You can find out when from the BG website and then apply if you have not already done so.

You should also check out what other tariffs are available to you.

If they wrote to you advising you, what's sneaky about that?

thus a whole year of Essential tariff lost well 11 months anyway and after a huge rise. Guess there's no pleasing everyone.

Opening AGAIN, ie. it's been open before, and you managed to miss the letter and all the press about it. You missed eleven months because you didn't check your bills properly and you missed all the advertising.

I was with British Gas for several years before switching to EDF blue, and I was always informed of all tariff changes . I don't think you can blame them because you failed to take any action when they contacted you. You'll know better next time.
