Don't spend any more money involving your solicitor if they really can't help, but I assume you spoke to the solicitor on the day of completion, so I don't see the problem?
The toilet flush should be pretty cheap to deal with, I've just done mine for under £10. As suggested you could try freecycle/ebay/free-ads for an oven to keep you going until money is less tight.0 -
This topic is well old and probably has been sorted alreadyIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

The OP was from 2007! egrid1 must have waaay too much time on their hands..."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
I feel sorry for you, unfortunately the stress of house purchase often increases even after moving in.
When we purchased our house in 1998, the survey didnt pick up a presevation order on a massive blue cedar in the garden. It had a seperate trunk leading of it like a whole new tree in itself. The neighbours were worried about the implications on their property if it fell down. We tried to remove it for similar reasons but each time our application was turned down. In the end it did happen. We had a period of snow followed by bad gales and the weight of the snow on the branches made the tree unstable. It fell on the neighbours property. Smashing their conservetory and covering the entire 47ft width of their garden. Luckily their children were safely indoors at the time, but they did lose the cat for a couple of days and worry he had been squished.
We had to pay £1000 to a tree surgeon to remove the rest of the tree and take it off the property.
The elderly lady who lived in the property before us, and died during the house sale, her son decided to alert the council of the Blue Cedar and the preservation order was slapped on as the sale went through (hence being missed off the survey!)....
