Internet connection problems.

I'm connected to 8mb Broadband with Homecall and normally have no problems. My modem is normally connected to the main telephone connection....until today.
I have had to move my computer to another room and have just had a new telephone socket fitted today in order to move the computer. The electrician took a feed off of the main phone socket and fed the wire through to the other room. Here's where the problems have started........
My connection has now been reduced to 2.6mb when i connect up and when someone phones the house telephone, the internet connection is lost and i can only reconnect when i hang up the phone.
Does internet not work through an additional telephone socket rather than the main one? Why does my internet cut of whenever i use the phone or when someone else phones me?
Please help because i don't know what to do????

firstly dump homecall cos they suck.
do you have a splitter that splits the signal to you pc/phone?
its also possible that the extension may not be up to carrying 8mb that may explain the loss.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
Sounds like you have not got all used sockets filtered. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Also worth check the electrcians cabling.
I presume he has just created an extension from your main socket.
If one of the pairs of cables isnt connected or crimped correctly this could cause loss in speed0 -
Thanks for all these suggestions. I just realised that i didn't have my filter put back into my main connection! Will i now need another filter for my new connection and if yes where would i be able to buy one of these?0

You only need a filter plugged into used sockets and they can be bought at lots of places from about £2 upwards. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I've just replaced my filter in the main socket, have made a phone call and my internet didn't get disconnected :j
I'll get another filter tomorrow for the new connection and then hopefully i'll be back to normal again.
Thanks to everyone who helped. It was very much appreciated. :beer:0 -
You only need filters at sockets you are using for the phone or other equipment, if you only have your PC plugged into to the extension socket you do not need another filter.0

I've sorted the problem with the internet disconnecting on me by putting in the filters in each phone socket. However, the speed of the internet connection is still only 2.2mb when it's normally 8mb. It doesn't really seem to affect the speed of opening pages much, but my daughter has noticed that when she's on webcam it doesn't move so quick.
Anyone any suggestions? Is it worth phoning up homecall and explaining or would it be something to do with my new phone socket?0
