is totally incorrect as this type of scam is still going on now and on a very regular basis.

What , like every other sale on eBay? LOL :rotfl:

The listing has had over 850 views (most of which I suspect came via this forum). The seller must be wondering his empty box is so popular!

Is a sarcastic comment your way of avoiding admitting that your earlier post was in fact, incorrect?.
You're not a politician by any chance are you?

You really need to look up the definition of "regular".
If scam listings appear on a weekly basis, they are by definition, regular. Not very common, but regular none the less, and if one person leans about them from reading this and it helps avoid them losing money, they the moneysaving part of the forum is working.
  • It's a bit like the scammers who pay via paypal then collect the goods and open a goods not received dispute shortly afterwards, which they are almost guaranteed to win.
This type of scam probably only makes up a tiny percentage of all sales involving paypal and collection, but it's still worth advising people of the fact that it can and does happen.

The scam involving empty boxes is the same.
A very small overall % of all sales, but forewarned is forearmed, and the more people that read about the possibility of what can happen, the fewer people who may end up getting caught out.
  • If scam listings appear on a weekly basis, they are by definition,
    regular.

This whole thread is about a sale which looks perfectly innoculous, so there is your proof that people are jumping on the scam wagon over nothing. Like George Michael said, people need to be aware of what goes on, but this scaremongering is ridiculous.

I see no problem with the auction the OP has identified as it clearly states an empty box for collection.
If the auction was an iPad/iPhone with deceptive wording to fool the buyer into thinking the box was complete with all contents then that would be a different story.
Any discussion highlighting the box scam may just help to educate any newcomers to this forum, some good points have been made.
